Fun Break: Stormy Weather with Mom & Kate

So in the middle of this whole cancer thing, there are moments of fun that make everything better, and a lot of those since this whole thing have been with my mom, who has been my right-hand-Mom this whole time.

We've had a couple of nor'easters in the past week, so Mom and I decided to have a little fun and go out in them.

Here are some of our hijinks.

Noreaster #1: Vineyard Edition

We drive out to Menemsha to see the amazing weather that was going on and it truly didn't disappoint.

Here's the massive swell and sandblasting sea spray:

Here's the wind & sand whipping across the parking lot and the waves pounding the jetty:

This was interesting: the storm was driving the tide in like a hurricane storm surge. It was almost unnerving to watch. Check out the force of it:

On the way up, we nearly ran into what looked like a really low-hanging branch. I only saw it at the last second. On the way back, we found out that it was a tree and that police had blocked off the road.

It was then that we realized "oh hey we're driving around in Cat 1 winds and trees could fall on us."

So we went home. The long way.

Noreaster #2: Newton Edition

I had a really important oncology appointment in Boston on Friday morning where they were telling me about what kind of chemo and how long it would take (for all that fun, check out this post). When we saw another nor'easter coming our way, we decided to head on up to Newton, where we stay for medical appointments at an awesome little place called the Walker Center that feels kindof like staying with your relatives, if they lived at an former New England boarding school. I'll talk more about them later, I'm sure, as they're the home-away-from-home-away-from-home at this point.

So we went up to Newton for a few days where I brought my additional monitor and was able to do some work. And then the snow started.

Northern friends, please hold the jaded sighs.

I only get to experience snow once every several years, and damnit I was excited about it. Mom & I got some provisions from Trader Joe's, and once it started snowing I taught her about Drizly, which of course rocked her world ("Wait, they will bring you wine to wherever you are?!") and then around 10pm we went out to play.

The snow was beautiful.

The Walker Center in the snow

Mom thoroughly enjoyed it.

She went for a wander under a snowy tree.

I got a huge snowflake on my nose

And took a pic under a snow-laden bush

And then went under the same big tree that mom had.

I made a snow angel, because I could.

And took selfies with the big furry hood on.

And of the Uggs I thought would never see snow.

And with mom.

All in all it was a lovely romp in the snow. I only lasted about 30minutes but it was absolutely worth every second and made even better by being with Mom.

It kept snowing all night and most of the next day. This was the view from our window in the morning.

Still don't want to shovel it...but for one day, we were totally snow queens.
