I needed something comforting today, and despite my normal proclivities, I went with fruit.
This morning’s mix was a decent dousing on hair, clothes and arms of Dirty Peach by Heretic and Dream by The Maker.
(I’ll do separate reviews of these as well.)
I find Dirty Peach to have a little tinge of something a little jarring. Is it animalic? A little rotten? Biologically sexy, if you catch my drift? I don’t know. Not sure how to describe , but whereas I wouldn’t really pick it up as a solo-wear, I find it to be a really nice base fragrance to layer on. Alone, it is green and rich, without that fake candy element that a lot of peach frags have. It’s so photorealistic of standing by a late-season peach tree that you can smell the branches and something almost a little overripe in a way, like peaches that have fallen to the ground and are fermenting in the dirt. That is the element that makes me second-guess wearing it on its own.
In a similar way, Dream tends to a little too rich for solo-wear during the daytime for me, as I’m not normally a sweet-scent girly. That said, I will totally spray it on just before bed, and I really love it as a sweet-dreams fragrance. (See what I did there?)
The magic comes when you blend Dirty Peach with another more elegant note, like a pipe tobacco scent, or something heavy with incense or tea or vanilla, and that sharpness calms down. Layering with the buttery, slightly cinnamon vanilla sweetness of Dream, it brings out the best in both. The dirty part of Dirty Peach turns summery and sunny; the sweetness in Dream is countered by the sharpness of the fruit. It’s like making a fresh peach tart on your skin.
That was the mood I was in today. And with a million meetings and tight deadlines looming, I needed a little moral support. 10/10 would do it again.
